A village that kept its old heart
Chorlton Green was one of the first two conservation areas designated in the City of Manchester, in 1970, and the council describes it as the last trace of the original village. The shops and bars of Beech Road grew up just east of it. Around them, Victorian and Edwardian terraces fill the side streets, and the Chorltonville garden village, opened in 1911, adds Arts and Crafts houses along tree-lined roads with grass verges.
