Good access control installation in Manchester starts with how your building works. TRACEFORM's NICEIC registered electricians fit fob, card and keypad entry for offices, shops and shared buildings. We work across Greater Manchester, Liverpool, London, Cambridge and Peterborough. We check the doors, locks, users, wiring and power. We agree how everyone gets out safely. Then we set up user admin and hand the system over. Video entry and CCTV can be linked where the chosen kit supports it.

Door access control for offices and shared buildings

List staff, residents, contractors and deliveries, and which doors each group uses and when. A shared entrance may need a different set-up from an inside office door. The door's build, fire role and locks affect what we can reuse. A keypad door entry installer must check this at survey before picking credentials or calling the job simple.

Standalone or networked control

A standalone system manages permissions at each door. A networked system may run all doors from one place, if its kit and software allow. For fob entry system installation, agree who adds users, cancels fobs and keeps the admin account. Agree expansion, licences and support in the spec. Not every quote includes them.

Integrating readers, intercoms and CCTV

Give us the make and model of any existing intercom, recorder or fire-system link. Devices fitted side by side may not work together. The proposal should list what works, the work needed and who looks after each link. This service does not include biometric systems, enterprise platforms or maintenance contracts.

Access logs and privacy

If logs identify people, decide why you need them, who may see them and when you delete them. Keep admin access tight and tell the people affected how it works. Start with the ICO's UK GDPR resources. Our business CCTV guide covers related security records. It is not a full legal review of access logs.

Key facts before you plan

  1. Fire escape doors must open from inside without a key; electrical release arrangements require specialist design for the particular door.

  2. Identifiable access logs bring data-protection responsibilities. Product selection alone does not establish lawful use.

  3. The responsible person for an office or shop must keep escape routes usable and review the fire-risk assessment when door arrangements change.

Fob, card or keypad: which entry method fits?

Start with your doors, users and admin needs. Whatever credential you prefer, the survey checks hardware fit and safe exit.

  • Office and shared-building entry

Plan staff, residents and deliveries around your real opening hours. The survey must cover door state, release and user admin.

  • Lost credentials and leavers

Agree who removes access and see how the system does it. A shared keypad code needs a different policy from single fobs.

  • Supported integration only

CCTV and video entry do different jobs. Send model details so we can state links, limits and support before fitting.

Why businesses book TRACEFORM for access control

  • Door-led assessment

We check the door, people, wiring and release needs before planning the access control work.

  • Defined operating arrangement

Your handover covers normal entry, admin and the written plan for a power cut.

  • Clear administrator ownership

Know who runs the system and how the chosen kit issues and cancels credentials.

How a planned project runs

  1. Map doors, users and working hours

Send your postcode, safely taken door photos and who needs access. Note shared entrances, locked-off rooms and existing equipment. Then the survey can cover the whole site.

  2. Survey hardware and escape requirements

TRACEFORM checks door fit, locks, cable routes and power. Where needed, we work with the responsible person, fire-risk assessor and system specialist. We agree how each door releases. Do not assume every door unlocks in a power cut.

  3. Agree scope and temporary access

Your written quote lists credentials, supported links, equipment, VAT and any software or support charges. It also sets out working hours and safe temporary entry and exit while we work.

  4. Install and record functional checks

We fit the agreed system. We test entry, release and fallback functions against the maker's instructions. We record the results for your handover pack.

  5. Hand administration to the owner

We show normal use and how to remove access. We name the admin, records, link owners and how to report faults. The building's responsible person keeps the written power-loss and escape plan.

Safety and paperwork checklist

  • Check each door's escape and fire-door role before choosing locks.
  • Agree how each door opens, what it does in a power cut and a tested fallback.
  • Name the responsible person and anyone who owns fire or linked systems.
  • Keep a safe way out during works. Agree temporary set-ups first.
  • Restrict access-log administration and document purpose and retention.
  • Do not bypass a failed lock, open equipment or treat a planner as safety approval.

Frequently asked questions

Which access control system is best suited to a small business?

Start with the doors, users and working hours, not a brand. Standalone control may suit a simple entrance; supported networked equipment can make individual permissions easier to administer. TRACEFORM surveys door hardware, safe exit and ownership of administration before proposing suitable fob, card or keypad entry.

How much does an access control door system cost?

A first door with a keypad or fob reader typically costs £495–£1,065, and each additional door £375–£895. The price depends on the door and locking hardware, cable routes, the credential type and whether you want networked software. After the survey you get a written, itemised quote covering equipment, fitting, commissioning and VAT.

Can access control integrate with existing security systems?

Integration is possible where the equipment has compatible, supported interfaces. Nearby CCTV, intercom and fire-alarm equipment should not be assumed to work together. Share manufacturer and model details at the survey so required work, limitations and the party responsible for each interface can be agreed in writing.

What happens if the exit button does not release the door?

A failed release needs prompt competent assessment, especially on an escape route. Do not leave people relying on the affected exit without an appropriate safe arrangement. Follow the building's agreed emergency procedure and seek assistance. Do not bypass the lock or open electrical equipment to attempt a repair.

Is access control GDPR compliant?

Compliance depends on operation as well as equipment. Identifiable logs need a defined purpose, controlled access and retention appropriate to that purpose. The organisation must assess its responsibilities using current ICO guidance. Installing a reader or choosing a product advertised as compliant does not make every logging practice lawful.

Is there much disruption while access control is installed?

Cable routes, door alterations and existing equipment set the level of disruption. We agree working hours, authorised access and temporary entry and exit before fitting, and tell you in advance about any planned supply interruption or entrance restriction so the building keeps running.

Our electrics kept tripping and we had no idea why. He found the faulty socket and sorted it on the same visit. Really pleased, thanks again 👍
