Our electrics kept tripping and we had no idea why. He found the faulty socket and sorted it on the same visit. Really pleased, thanks again 👍

Renting or living in a flat? You may qualify for the household EV chargepoint grant, which covers 75% of eligible costs up to £500. We check eligibility with you at the survey.
An EV charger installation in Manchester starts with a look at your property. For home EV charger installation, TRACEFORM checks your parking, cable routes, existing wiring and vehicle needs before we quote. We agree any related electrical work and handle the DNO notification. We also set up the charger app with you. Our NICEIC registered electricians fit chargers across Greater Manchester, Liverpool, London, Cambridge and Peterborough.
Home and workplace charging in Greater Manchester
Start with where the vehicle parks and how the cable will reach its charging port. A private home space, a flat bay and a managed workplace each need different permissions and setups. For a workplace, find out who controls user access and who owns the equipment. We quote multi-point workplace charging as its own project.
What counts as a standard installation?
Each installer means something different by a standard installation. Check what is included: the charger, cable length, electrical work, testing, app setup and VAT. Groundworks, longer routes, supply changes or consumer-unit changes may cost extra. Compare the full price before you take off any grant you qualify for.
Can you get an EV chargepoint grant in 2026?
Renters and flat owners may qualify for the household chargepoint grant. It covers 75% of eligible costs, up to £500. Rules apply to the property, vehicle, parking and application. You must confirm eligibility through the official process before installation. Our 2026 grant guide explains each route and the evidence you need.
Owner-occupied houses and parking permission
The household renters-and-flat-owners route does not give a general discount to people who own and live in a house. A separate cross-pavement route may apply in some cases. You need to check its official criteria and get council permission. Do not assume you have shared parking rights or can run a cable across a public path. Our grant guide links to the official routes.
Supply, consumer unit and the DNO process
A 7kW charger adds a large continuous load. So we check your supply, main fuse, earthing, protection and existing demand before fitting. Where needed, we add load management so the charger cuts its output when the house is busy. We notify the distribution network operator after installation. Where the network requires it, we apply in advance.
Solar, batteries and smart controls
Tell us about any solar or battery and the charger model you want before you choose equipment. Some controls can coordinate charging, but links and tariff features depend on the equipment. In Great Britain, covered private-use products must meet the Smart Charge Points Regulations. This does not mean every charger has every feature, or that you will save. Your electrician must confirm which wiring-regulations edition applies when they design the circuit.

Tethered or untethered: what needs checking?
Choose a charger around the car, parking and supply. The cable type alone does not decide the speed you get, grant eligibility or whether you need electrical changes.
| Choice or requirement | Practical difference | Confirm at survey |
|---|---|---|
| Tethered charger | An attached lead is ready to connect. | Vehicle compatibility, port reach and safe cable storage. |
| Untethered charger | A compatible lead can be removed. | Connector, lead arrangements and everyday handling. |
| Supply and circuit | The installation must suit assessed demand and protection. | Related alterations, load management and applicable network route. |
| Smart or solar controls | Functions depend on selected compatible equipment. | Model support, connectivity, account ownership and optional charges. |
| Grant-dependent booking | A separate official process may support eligible projects. | Current criteria, approved model and eligibility confirmed before fitting. |
Our reading: Get an itemised quote with the full price. Show any confirmed grant separately. Do not pick equipment on an expected grant, a promised charging speed or a set standard installation.

Safety and paperwork checklist
- Confirm parking and installation rights before agreeing the route.
- Do not remove supply or consumer-unit covers to take quote photos.
- Check earthing, protection, demand and route. Do not rely on charger rating alone.
- Agree who handles applicable network approval or notification.
- Check the main fuse rating and existing demand before adding a 7kW load.
- Check if you need load management to protect the supply.
- Keep electrical certification, compliance records and grant documents distinct.
How a planned project runs
Describe vehicle, parking and permissions
Send your postcode, vehicle model, parking position and rights to install. Add safe photos taken outside and any solar or battery details. Do not remove electrical covers to get information.
Assess supply and installation route
TRACEFORM checks your existing electrical installation and cable route first. Then we suggest equipment and related work. The check shows which network process applies. It also shows if you need extra permissions or specialist help.
Confirm equipment, price and grant sequence
We agree the charger, any electrical changes, groundworks, VAT and app setup in a written quote. If you want a grant, confirm eligibility through the official process before the fitting date.
Fit, test and commission
We fit the charger on its own circuit, complete the load check and BS 7671 tests, and commission the unit with you. Groundworks, longer routes or supply changes are planned into the programme at the survey.
Demonstrate charging and provide records
We show you how to connect, set charging schedules and manage the app account. You get the Electrical Installation Certificate and the Part P notification for the new circuit. We also confirm the DNO has been told.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a home EV charger cost to install?
A 7kW home charger supplied and fitted typically costs £980–£1,360; fitting a charger you already own is £485–£605. Long cable routes, groundworks or supply and board alterations can change the figure, so we confirm everything in a written, itemised quote after the survey.
Am I eligible for the grant if I own my house?
The household renters-and-flat-owners grant is not a general route for people who own and occupy houses. Eligible flat owners and renters still need to satisfy parking, vehicle and application criteria. A separate cross-pavement route may be relevant in some circumstances; check official criteria and required council permission before assuming support.
What is the difference between tethered and untethered?
A tethered charger has an attached cable; an untethered charger accepts a removable compatible lead. Think about your vehicle's port, cable reach, storage and everyday handling. Neither format alone establishes charging speed or property suitability. The charger, vehicle and assessed electrical supply must work together for the agreed installation.
How long will installation take, and how long will I wait?
Most of the work is in the planning: we confirm parking rights, the cable route and your supply at the survey, then book a fitting date. Groundworks, consumer-unit changes or a DNO application add time, and we tell you about them before you commit.
Does an EV charger installation need registering or approval?
Yes. A new charger circuit is notifiable under Part P, so you receive an Electrical Installation Certificate and building-regulations notification. The DNO must also be notified, and some supplies need approval before connection; we handle both as part of the installation.
What if my fuse box is old?
Age alone does not determine the work required. Assessment should consider supply capacity, earthing, protection and the proposed charging circuit. The solution may involve limited alterations, additional equipment or a replacement board, depending on findings. Any consumer-unit work should have its own explanation and price in the quotation.
