New electrical circuits in Manchester, Liverpool, London, Cambridge and Peterborough give a garden room, cooker, shower or outdoor socket its own properly protected supply. TRACEFORM's NICEIC registered electricians check the equipment, the existing supply and the full cable route. Then we tell you if you need a new circuit, an alteration or a simple connection. We install, test and certify the agreed work and handle Part P notification.
Common new-circuit jobs and typical prices
Most new circuits we install are for one of five jobs. These are a garden room or workshop, an electric cooker or range, an electric shower, an outdoor socket or hot tub supply, and an EV charger. An electric shower on a new circuit is typically £555–£1,020. Other circuits use our planned rate of £55–£75 an hour or £375–£495 a day. You get a fixed written quote at the survey, before work starts.
When do you need a new electrical circuit?
Connecting equipment to a suitable existing supply is a different job from running a new circuit. Adding a point may only alter existing wiring. A dedicated supply is a separate project with its own design. The appliance instructions and what we find on site decide the scope. A spare socket or a free way in the consumer unit is just where the talk starts.
Cooker and electric shower circuit installation
Send us the appliance model and the manufacturer's instructions before you order. A range cooker, a single oven and a high-rated shower need very different power. We check the load, the existing supply, protection and a practical route. Then we size the cable and protective device for your equipment. Your other trades handle plumbing and kitchen fitting, and we agree the order of work with them.
Tripping is a fault question first
If a cooker or shower trips the electrics, there may be an appliance or wiring fault, and a new circuit will not always cure it. We find the cause first, then recommend an upgrade only where it is the right fix. Please do not keep resetting a breaker or RCD to force the equipment to run.
Garden room electrics, workshops and outdoor power
Tell us how the space will be used: year-round heating, lighting, computers, tools or a hot tub. A summer room and a full-time office need different supplies. We plan the outdoor route, cable type, protection and local isolation so the building gets a permanent, safe supply instead of an extension lead through the window.
Groundworks, access and reinstatement
We agree up front who digs the trench, who coordinates other trades and who reinstates lawns, paving or internal finishes. Share drawings and your build programme early, ideally before foundations or decoration go in, so the cable route can be designed properly and the job runs in one clean sequence.
Supply capacity, protection and certificates
Board space is only one part of the picture. Existing demand, incoming supply, earthing and protection all shape the new circuit. They also shape related work, such as a consumer unit upgrade. We price it separately so you can see why it is needed. In England a new domestic circuit is notifiable under Part P. You get an Electrical Installation Certificate with schedules, and we notify the work through our registration scheme.
Is this a connection, alteration or new circuit?
Equipment instructions and our site check decide the work. Notifiable or not, the work still needs safe design and testing.
| Proposed work | Scope to assess | Paperwork discussion |
|---|---|---|
| Existing cooker connection | Assess the existing provision against the actual appliance requirements. | Built-in cooker connection alone is not notifiable unless other notifiable work is needed. |
| Added point or alteration | Check suitability of the existing circuit and the extent of changes. | Certification follows the assessed work; do not assume every alteration creates a circuit. |
| New dedicated circuit | Design the supply, route and protection for the equipment and installation. | EIC and schedules; new domestic circuits are notifiable in England. |
| Garden-room connection | Separate connection run, internal wiring, groundworks and reinstatement. | Confirm electrical notification separately from other garden-building approvals. |
| Consumer-unit or supply work | Explain identified related alterations and obtain approval. | Records must describe the work actually carried out, not just the end equipment. |
Our reading: We confirm the scope and the certificates before work starts, so you know exactly what is being installed and which records you will receive.

Key facts before you plan
A new domestic circuit is notifiable in England under Part P; this does not automatically apply to every cooker reconnection or added socket.
Approved Document P: electrical safety · GOV.UKAn EIC and relevant schedules document a new circuit. A minor-works certificate or EICR is not its replacement.

How a planned project runs
Provide equipment and intended-use details
Share your postcode, appliance model or manual, how you will use it and your build stage. For an outbuilding, include heating, tools and future plans so the survey covers everything.
Assess the supply and complete route
TRACEFORM checks the existing supply, earthing, protection, whether the consumer unit is suitable and the route to the equipment. We then decide if the job is a connection, an alteration or a new circuit. Each appliance is assessed on its own.
Agree scope and responsible trades
We split out circuit work, internal room wiring, appliance connection and any related board changes. We confirm who handles groundworks, access and reinstatement. You get a fixed written quote and programme at the survey.
Coordinate stages and install
We follow the agreed design and build order. We size the cable and protective devices for your equipment and route. We work with your other trades so finishes are only disturbed once.
Test, explain and provide records
We identify and test the finished circuit, explain local controls and give you the right installation records. A new circuit needs an EIC and schedules. Under the Approved Document P registered route, we handle the compliance certificate and notification within 30 days.

Equipment-to-handover scope board
Choose the equipment and record the information needed for a survey. The output is a scope discussion, not a verdict that a dedicated circuit is required.
This board does not design a cable, approve a supply or calculate a price. Equipment instructions, concurrent demand, surveyed supply and route conditions must be assessed by an electrician. No personal documents are required.

Trade boundaries explained
Groundworks, reinstatement and related work are agreed in the scope up front. Nothing is assumed to be included.
Tested, documented completion
We identify, test and explain the finished circuit, with the right certificates for the work done.
Safety and paperwork checklist
- Give us the real equipment manual. Do not guess demand from appliance type alone.
- Find the cause of any tripping before assuming a new supply is the fix.
- Assess supply, earthing and protection; spare board space is not proof of capacity.
- Do not treat an extension lead as a permanent garden room supply.
- Agree route, groundworks and reinstatement. Do not use generic trench-depth rules.
- Confirm related works and approval points before installation starts.
- Retain EIC and schedules plus the applicable building-regulations record.

Frequently asked questions
Should my cooker be on its own electrical circuit?
The appliance instructions and assessed installation determine the answer. A high-demand cooker and a lower-demand oven are not interchangeable. Provide the model and manual before connection is planned so an electrician can assess supply and protection. An existing socket or cooker outlet is not, by itself, proof of suitability.
Can I run a garden room from an extension lead?
An extension lead is not designed to be a permanent garden-room supply. Heating, computers, lighting and year-round use add up, and the outdoor route needs the right cable and protection. We review your existing supply and planned use, then specify a permanent armoured supply with its own protection and local isolation.
Do garden-room electrics need building-regulations sign-off?
In England, a new domestic electrical circuit is notifiable under Part P. That is separate from other approvals for the garden building. Agree electrical certification and the notification route before work begins, and ask who provides the records. A supplier's statement about the building itself does not establish the circuit's status.
Is a minor-works certificate enough for a new circuit?
A genuinely new circuit requires the appropriate Electrical Installation Certificate and relevant schedules. A minor-works certificate is not a substitute. Notifiable domestic work also needs the applicable building-regulations record, while an EICR reports condition. Confirm that the paperwork describes the actual work rather than treating these different documents as interchangeable.
What does a new electrical circuit cost in Manchester?
An electric shower on a new circuit is typically £555–£1,020. Cooker, garden room and outdoor circuits are priced from our planned rate of £55–£75 an hour or £375–£495 a day, depending on the cable route, groundworks and any consumer unit work. You get a written, itemised quote after the survey, before any work starts.
Does the electrician need to visit before I order a garden room?
Yes, ideally. An early visit settles the supply, cable route, expected demand and the order of work. Share drawings, heating and equipment plans before foundations or finishes go in, and we agree who handles trenching, internal wiring and reinstatement, so the garden room arrives ready for a clean connection.
